A PAIR OF LATE 19TH-CENTURY CONTINENTAL PORCELAIN FOUR-BRANCH (FIVE-LIGHT) FIGURAL CANDELABRA in the Meissen taste, modelled with a shepherd and shepherdess respectively, each holding a lamb, seated on a naturalistic tree stump beneath a detachable flower-encrusted four-branch socket underglaze blue JR monogram beneath each (possibly Josef Roth or Josef Reiber?) 40.5cm, (16in) high (losses) £150-200 Male figure: Tip of one lobe beneath central socket lacking. Two petals of flowers lacking (to naked eye). Two tips to canopy beneath one branch . Socket lacking. Both back legs of lamb depleted. Bocage has numerous small chip depletions. Female figure - More extensive chips to flowers and "drip-trays". Bocage similarly chipped. Overall- damaged as per many of this type of figure.

304 , Samuel Walker of Rotherham, c.1770s: SIX RARE LATE 18TH-CENTURY BLACK BASALTES UNIFACE MEDALLIONS, five circular, 7cm, (2.75in), to 3.9cm (1.5in) and one oval 4cm x 3.6cm, (1.6in x 1.4in), in the form of clich e9s of the obverses or reverses of six earlier 18th-century Russian medallions with cyrillic legends, including three with royal portraits (Czar Peter Alexandra and others) and three of baroque-style reverses, two dated 1706 and 1761, each impressed to the reverse either "WALKERS" or "SW" together with a numeral (presumably a catalogue number ): 2, 19, 51,54, 60 and 74 (6) £150-180 Largest - edge flake chip 3mm. Second largest - edge flake chip 2mm. Remainder seem sound.

305 Samuel Walker of Rotherham, 1770s: A MOST UNUSUAL BLACK BASALTES UNIFACE MEDALLION in the form of a reverse clich e9 of a medal, the legend ELBINGA MARTIALI INDVSTRIA CAPTA having chronogrammatic dating (by addition of the larger letters as Roman numerals), 1714, and in the exergue in Latin, 10th February, above the medallist's initials S.V., the reverse impressed SW and numeral 29, 43mm, (1.7in) diameter, and TWO SMALL BLACK BASALTES COPIES OF FRENCH MEDALLIONS, of the late 18th century, maker unknown, 27mm, (1.1in) (3) £80-120 All sound.

306 TWO LATE 18TH-CENTURY WEDGWOOD BLACK BASALTES OVAL MEDALLIONS modelled in relief with male helmetted classical heads, the reverses impressed WEDGWOOD and having impressed numerals 9 and 11 (possibly representing Heraclitus and Aristides), 52mm, (2.1in) high *** * Literature: Mankowitz, Wolf, WEDGWOOD, 3rd Edn. 1992, p.197 et.seq. includes a transcript of the Wedgwood and Bentley Catalogue of 1779, in which these numerals are shown under various heads. The present medallions are inscribed verso in pencil Edward I (9) and Edward III (II) which does indeed conform to the numerals in a list of Kings of England; the helmets would however suggest classical subjects. £80-120 In good order.

308 A VICTORIAN STAFFORDSHIRE POTTERY FIGURAL CHIMNEY ORNAMENT OF THE PRINCESS OF WALES OR PRINCESS ROYAL, seated side-saddle on a piebald horse, the naturalistic oval base with moulded title "PRINCESS", 33cm, (13in) high *** * For a matching figure, see Pugh, P.D. Gordon, Staffordshire Portrait Figures, Barrie & Jenkins, 1970, plate 68. £80-120 Minor paint flake to headdress. Crack through back leg of horse. Firing crack where front leg meets base. Very minor hairline to bridle. A few small firing flaws. Wide firing crack to back leg adjoining "tree-stump" - a right angle fissure of about 2" length. Hairline to tails of jacket continuing to back of figure. Overall - A number of small faults (mainly firing) make it sound worse than it is!

310 A LATE VICTORIAN/EDWARDIAN MINTON'S PORCELAIN TWO-HANDLED VASE AND COVER, the latter having a gilt acorn finial within a band of gilt jewelling, the neoclassical urn-form body having two shield-form panels of pink roses in bloom, a further two panels to the shoulders beneath the gilt scroll handles, all reserved on a mazarin blue ground with gilt jewelling, the spreading circular foot gilt-lined, pink printed mark, painted mark "as.OA.1131" to base, 17.3cm, (6.8in) high (cover restored) £80-120 Cover well restored - probably broken in two and resprayed/repainted (shows under u.v).
